Winter Hats and Accessories Guide

The temperature is finally taking a turn for the worst; or for the layer lovers, a turn for the best! And when this happens we need to pay more attention to our accessories to stylishly wrap up our outfits. There are many accessories that can be worn for this season but I’ll run you through my favourite ones which bring both practicality and stylish character to your wardrobe.

Wool Scarf, fur felt fedora, wool newsboy hat, tweed flat cap, gloves, neckerchief, silk twill scarf, beanies

Hats

I am a massive hat lover regardless of the weather and i’ve got an extensive collection of hats for all seasons, but I have to say, the main ones that stand out during the winter are the ones with the much thicker and fuller textures to help protect the majority of my head against the cold and harsh winds.

I reach for my fur felt fedora when I’m looking for a more formal or edgy look as it works brilliantly with my overcoats or tailored wear as a finishing touch. It gives the look added character and creates a standout effect against anything I pair it with.

My newsboy hat is more of a casual hat and used mostly for weekend trips or dress down outings. I prefer this style to the flat caps just cause it’s more flattering and compliments my head shape a bit more than the flat cap. It is also rare and hardly seen on the streets. This has kind of become an identifiable staple piece of mine

I go for the beanie mostly when I aim to pair it with any hooded coat I have on, for example my parkas and raincoats as I can easily slot my hoods on without having to take them off. They also mostly work with my more sporty or extremely comfortable outfits: smart joggers, trainers, unconstructed Blazers and so on.

Accessories

My two main scarf choices are my wool scarves or silk-twill scarves. My wool scarves are my everyday ones and they are usually used to insulate and protect my neck area through the harsh winds and prove as an extra layer to the collar zones where my coat or jacket fail to reach.

My silk ones usually slot nicely with my more formal wear as they give it that nice and smooth finish, perfect complementary blend rather than a wool scarf which might upset its balance or casualise the outfit in an unexpected way. However when the temperature is really low you might have no choice but to opt for the wool

Lastly, gloves are one thing I recommend you all take very serious as they are a wonderful accessory to show your attention to detail. From the suede gloves to driving gloves to the typical leather gloves. There are so many different styles that you can find one that best suits your taste. I recommend having two different types to switch up your style game based on your occasion. I opted for the driving gloves and suede gloves. One should also consider your location and know how cold it gets before making your decisions.
